2. The Stift app
No data collection
Stift processes all images locally on your Mac. The app has no network access and sends no data to me or to anyone else.
Screen Recording
To take screenshots, Stift needs the macOS Screen Recording permission. Captures only happen when you start them. They stay in the editor on your Mac until you copy them or save them to a place you choose.
Settings
Settings such as tool, colors and shortcuts are stored locally in the macOS user defaults.
Retention and deletion
Stift doesn’t store images. An image only exists while its editor window is open, or wherever you save it yourself. Settings live in the app container at ~/Library/Containers/com.stiftapp.stift. Deleting this folder removes all of Stift’s data. You can revoke the Screen Recording permission in System Settings under Privacy & Security.
Mac App Store
Stift is distributed through the Mac App Store. Apple is responsible for the download and the related processing under Apple’s own privacy policy. If you agreed in macOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple provides me with anonymized crash and usage statistics that don’t identify you.
3. This website
Hosting
This website is hosted by STRATO AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. When you open a page, STRATO processes technically necessary data in server log files: IP address, date and time, the page requested and your browser. This is needed to deliver the website and protect it from abuse. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. STRATO processes this data on my behalf (Art. 28 GDPR) and keeps it only as long as needed for these purposes. Without this data the website can’t be delivered.
No cookies, no tracking
The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics and embeds no external fonts, scripts or content.
4. Contact by email
If you email me, I process your details to answer your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR. I delete the email once it is no longer needed for this and no legal retention period applies.
My email is handled by Google Gmail (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Google may also process data in the USA, based on the European Commission’s adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which Google is certified.
5. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21). To use them, write to the email address above.
Right to object
You can object at any time to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR). An email to the address above is enough.
There is no automated decision-making or profiling.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for me is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit), Alt-Moabit 59–61, 10555 Berlin, Germany.
