Where is Stift after I open it?
Stift runs in the menu bar at the top right. Clicking the Stift icon opens the menu for capturing, a new editor window and Settings. Stift only shows up in the Dock while an editor window is open.
Capturing doesn’t work
Stift needs Screen Recording permission. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, turn on Stift and restart Stift. Pasting (⌘V) or dragging images into an editor window works without this permission.
Shortcuts
Area ⌃⇧4, window ⌃⇧5, screen ⌃⇧3, new editor window ⌃⇧N. They work in every app and can be changed in Settings.
In the editor: A arrow, L line, R rectangle, O ellipse, T text, X redact, C crop, ⇧⌘C copy the finished image, ⌘S save.
A shortcut doesn’t react
Another app probably uses the same key combination. Choose a different one in Stift’s Settings under “Shortcuts”.
Where is the tutorial?
Choose “Stift Help” in the Stift icon’s menu or press ⌘? in an editor window. Settings → General shows the welcome screen again.
Requirements
macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Macs with Apple silicon or an Intel processor.
